An Interview with our Creative Designer, Celina Joyce: The Top 3 Christmas Theming Trends for 2024
As the festive season approaches, we are at the forefront of delivering cutting-edge event production. We sat down with our Creative Designer, Celina Joyce, to discuss the top Christmas theming trends for 2024. From bold aesthetics to sustainable decor, here’s what to expect for this year’s holiday celebrations.
Hot metals
Q: What’s the first trend we’ll be seeing in Christmas events this year?
Celina: One of the big trends for 2024 is what we’re calling “Hot Metals”. It’s all about cool silver tones and bold chrome finishes, which give Christmas events a futuristic, edgy vibe. Gen Z and Millennials are really driving this trend—they’re looking for something that feels fresh and modern, and metallics offer exactly that. You’ll see a lot of sleek silver ornaments, chrome accents on tables, and even reflective surfaces incorporated into event design. It’s a sharp departure from the softer, neutral palettes we’ve seen in the past.
Q: How does this theme play out at an event?
Celina: The magic happens when we combine these shiny elements with clever lighting. The reflective nature of metallics allows us to create stunning visual effects—think shimmering walls, glowing silver trees, and mirrored floors. Even the catering can follow suit, with chrome-accented serving trays and metallic touches on glassware. It’s a high-impact, glamorous look that brings a fresh energy to Christmas events.
Bow stacking
Q: We’ve been hearing about something called “Bow Stacking”—can you tell us more about that?
Celina: Yes, “Bow Stacking” is a fun and playful trend we’re really excited about. It’s all about layering bows in creative ways, and it’s coming straight from the fashion world. You’ve seen bows on outfits, shoes, and hair accessories lately—now we’re bringing that into event design. For Christmas 2024, bows are everywhere, whether it’s oversized bows on Christmas trees, stacks of smaller bows on gifts, or decorative bow accents on tables.
Q: How do you make that work in an event setting?
Celina: It’s all about balance and creativity. We might use large statement bows as centerpieces, or layer different styles of bows on a Christmas tree for a unique look. It’s such a versatile theme that works for both small, intimate gatherings and grand holiday events. The key is to blend the playful feel of bows with elegance, making sure it complements the overall design of the event. It brings a sense of charm and tradition, but with a modern twist.
Conscious comforts
Q: Sustainability has been a big focus in recent years. What’s the trend around that for 2024?
Celina: Definitely, sustainability is huge again this year, and for Christmas 2024, we’re seeing a trend we call “Conscious Comforts.” It’s about upcycling and repurposing materials to create unique, eco-friendly décor. Boomers and Gen X are especially drawn to this, as they love transforming everyday objects into something special. We’re talking about using rescued fabric scraps to wrap gifts or crafting ornaments from repurposed household items. It’s a trend that’s not only stylish but also meaningful, especially in today’s world where sustainability is top of mind.
Q: How does Vibration Production bring that sustainable element to life in an event?
Celina: We incorporate a lot of upcycled and reusable materials into the décor—whether it’s fabric scraps turned into table runners, ornaments made from reclaimed wood, or LED lighting to minimise energy use. There’s something really heartwarming about this trend because it’s all about giving objects a new lease on life. It adds a personal, handcrafted touch to the event, while also reducing waste. Plus, it fits perfectly with the cozy, nostalgic atmosphere people love during the holidays.
